Some backstory
Earlier this year the company I work for (SPS) decided to be a sponsor of CIGRE Cairns, which is a power engineering conference.
In the lead up to the conference we had a few chats as to how to make our booth more interesting. I floated an off-handed idea to make a game that was a lighthearted parody of what we do on the day-to-day as power system engineers.
The following Sunday afternoon I decided to start making the game in a JavaScript library called kaboom.js. I was able to put the game together really quickly, despite having very little JavaScript experience. I would highly recommend the library for people wanting to make small games quickly. That night I sent out the game to some of my friends and they really enjoyed it.
The game was a pretty big hit at the conference too, especially with people that worked in the same field as us. It was very entertaining to see the reactions of people who understood all of the inside jokes and references.
Overall I found the conference a really educational experience with a lot of interesting speakers. It was great to meet all of the people that I hadn’t met in person before, and new other engineers that had visited from all around the world.
